Medan — Governor of North Sumatra (Sumut) Muhammad Bobby Afif Nasution discussed accelerating the construction of subsidized housing for low-income communities (MBR) alongside Vice Chairman of Commission VI of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) Andre Rosiade and several housing developer associations in North Sumatra.
The meeting took place at the Tengku Rizal Nurdin Hall, North Sumatra Governor’s Official Residence, on Saturday (26/9/2026) evening. Several housing sector issues were addressed, including the high cost of building materials and administrative processes in developing subsidized housing.
“Regarding material prices, we are trying to offer a solution that we might resolve together. We really must collaborate so that material prices can be lower, by purchasing in large scales to get discounts,” Bobby said.
“For instance, if the government needs materials, we can inform the distributors of the required amount, combined with the needs of housing developer companies. That way, bulk purchases can qualify for discounts, making the prices cheaper,” he added.
In addition to material prices, Bobby highlighted the necessity of cross-party coordination to expedite administrative procedures for subsidized housing, including the processing of ownership certificates.
“Essentially, all relevant stakeholders must support each other, including banks, BUMDs, local governments, and others, to solve these issues. After all, this is a national program,” he stated.
Meanwhile, Vice Chairman of Commission VI of the House of Representatives Andre Rosiade welcomed the proposal. He expressed support for efforts to maintain a favorable investment climate in North Sumatra’s housing sector, particularly in supporting the provision of subsidized housing for low-income communities.
Andre noted that the DPR RI will actively encourage the implementation of government programs aimed at providing housing for low-income families.
The meeting was also attended by leaders and representatives of housing developer associations, representatives from North Sumatra BUMDs, and several related officials.
Held in an informal setting, the meeting covered discussions on various obstacles faced by the housing sector alongside alternative solutions.
