BANDA ACEH — The Aceh Provincial Government has instructed all residents domiciled in Aceh to use BL license plates on their motor vehicles to maximize local revenue. This directive was conveyed directly by Aceh Vice Governor Fadhlullah, who also urged officers at the Joint One-Stop Administration Services Office (Samsat) across Aceh to serve as primary role models for the public.
The instruction was delivered by Fadhlullah while attending a dissemination event organized by the Aceh Provincial Government through the Aceh Financial Management Agency (BPKA) in Banda Aceh on Wednesday (19/8/2026). He emphasized that increasing regional revenue demands a tangible commitment from all parties, beginning with the government apparatus itself.
Leading by Example from Samsat Officers
In his address to regional revenue officials and personnel, Fadhlullah stressed that revenue optimization will not succeed if field officers fail to practice what they advocate. Therefore, he strictly prohibited Samsat officers from driving vehicles with non-Aceh license plates in their day-to-day operations.
Fadhlullah reminded them that Samsat personnel stand on the front lines of motor vehicle tax services, making their integrity and discipline a direct reflection for the general public.
"The optimization of regional revenue must be a shared priority," Fadhlullah stated during his opening remarks at the event.
According to him, the state apparatus must showcase compliance first before demanding the same from the wider community. If Samsat officers are still found using non-BL plates while on duty in Aceh, it is deemed counterproductive to the regional tax compliance drive currently being intensified by the government.
Optimizing Regional Revenue
This vehicle plate enforcement is closely linked to the Aceh Government's efforts to reinforce the regional fiscal structure. The Motor Vehicle Tax (PKB) and Motor Vehicle Title Transfer Fee (BBNKB) represent vital components of regional revenue, which are channeled back to the public through infrastructure development and public service financing across Aceh.
Through the socialization initiative led by BPKA, the Aceh Government is mapping out strategies to accelerate the transfer and re-registration of out-of-province vehicles owned by individuals who have long resided and earned a living in the 'Veranda of Mecca.' This step is expected to minimize potential tax leakages that have previously benefited the vehicles' registered regions of origin.
The Aceh Government hopes that synergy among the BPKA, the police, and other related agencies at Samsat will continue to strengthen, fostering broader public awareness regarding vehicle registration transfers to the Aceh regional code (BL plate).
