Aceh – Indonesia, The Aceh Provincial Government is strengthening synergy with the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) to enhance preparedness against potential hydrometeorological disasters.
This was discussed when the Acting Regional Secretary of Aceh, Taufik, received a visit from the BMKG leadership in his office on Monday (9/28).
Taufik stated that weather, climate, and disaster information is crucial as a foundation for both the government and the public to take anticipatory measures.
“We continue to provide preparedness information to regencies and cities. Therefore, we need advice and input from relevant parties,” Taufik said.
Head of the Sultan Iskandar Muda Class I Meteorological Station and Coordinator of BMKG Aceh Technical Implementation Units, Cucu Kusmanyancu, reported on the latest weather developments in Aceh, including the potential transition into the rainy season.
BMKG also appreciated the preparedness circular issued by the Aceh Provincial Government for the next three months as a proactive step to mitigate hydrometeorological risks.
Additionally, BMKG presented several programs to strengthen the disaster monitoring system, including HF Radar in the Sabang Strait to monitor waves, currents, winds, and potential tsunamis.
BMKG is also preparing weather radars and Joint Field Schools in five locations to improve public understanding of the risks associated with extreme weather, climate change, earthquakes, and tsunamis.
