BLANGPIDIE — Cement supplies in Southwest Aceh (Abdya) Regency, Aceh Province, have reportedly become scarce in recent days. This situation has triggered a surge in retail prices among building material traders in the commercial hub of Blangpidie.
The limited cement stock is now drawing complaints from local consumers and construction businesses, as cement remains one of the most vital materials for infrastructure development and self-built housing projects.
Retail Cement Price Adjustments
Depleting market supplies have automatically forced traders to adjust selling prices to compensate for procurement costs and shortages from distributors. This price increase occurred suddenly within a matter of days.
Before the supply disruption, local cement prices were relatively stable. However, the supply constraints facing retailers have driven the final consumer price up by Rp5,000 per standard bag.
Testimonial from Building Material Traders
The scarcity and rising prices were confirmed directly by Miswar, a building supply store owner operating in downtown Blangpidie, Southwest Aceh Regency. According to him, traders only began feeling the price fluctuation in early August.
"The price of cement has only gone up over the past three days. Previously we sold it at Rp70,000 per bag, but now it has risen to Rp75,000," Miswar said on Tuesday (4/8/2026).
He explained that the upward price trend is heavily influenced by the smooth delivery of supplies from primary suppliers. When shipments encounter bottlenecks, inventory levels in traders' warehouses fall out of balance with the daily demand volume from Blangpidie residents.
Impact on the Construction Sector
As the economic hub of Southwest Aceh Regency, Blangpidie records high demand for building materials. There are concerns that this price hike could cause operational cost overruns for various construction projects in the region.
Builders and small-scale housing developers admit they must rethink their strategies to prevent ongoing projects from stalling completely. If the cement shortage persists, the pace of infrastructure development risks facing delays.
Local residents and building material merchants in Southwest Aceh now hope relevant parties, including distributors and local government, will promptly address the situation. Supply stabilization measures are seen as crucial to returning the cement distribution chain to normal and bringing retail prices under control.
