A devastating fire struck Dayah Rauzatul Jannah, located in Gampong Blang, Bandar Dua District, Pidie Jaya Regency, Aceh, on Tuesday (4/8/2026). The disaster destroyed dozens of student accommodation units as well as the residence of the Islamic boarding school's leader.
The incident is suspected to have been caused by an electrical short circuit. Flames rapidly engulfed the complex, destroying at least 20 student rooms and the dayah leader's house. Beyond the buildings, the fire also consumed three motorcycles and Rp20 million in piggy bank savings.
Despite the substantial material losses, no casualties or injuries were reported in the incident. All 109 students managed to evacuate safely as the fire spread.
For the time being, the students are forced to occupy the few remaining intact rooms. Meanwhile, local residents moved quickly to help assemble temporary tents to ensure learning activities can continue.
