Gampong Baru, located in Baiturrahman District, has officially become a model for community-based environmental management in Banda Aceh. This milestone was achieved through the residents' consistent implementation of the Climate Village Program (Proklim) via concrete environmental conservation initiatives.
Residents of Gampong Baru have successfully introduced creative innovations to maintain their village's cleanliness. Key routine activities include operating a Waste Bank, producing compost, applying the 3R principles (Reuse, Reduce, Recycle), and managing WCP facilities.
The success of this environmental management initiative caught the direct attention of the Mayor of Banda Aceh, Illiza Sa'aduddin Djamal. After joining residents in a community cleanup of the settlement on Sunday (2/8/2026), Illiza took time to inspect various Proklim facilities across the village.
During her visit, Illiza commended the residents' environmental awareness and urged them to continue advancing these green innovations. Self-reliant waste management models like the one in Gampong Baru have proven not only to make residential areas cleaner, but also to serve as concrete steps toward tackling climate change impacts at the grassroots level.
