The government continues to strengthen regional food security and water availability, including through the operation of the Keureuto Dam in North Aceh Regency. This infrastructure is designed to ensure a secure water supply for the agricultural sector, particularly during prolonged dry seasons and the impacts of the El Niño phenomenon.
The presence of the Keureuto Dam brings a significant impact for local farmers. The water facility is capable of irrigating an agricultural area covering 14,695 hectares. With a guaranteed year-round water supply, the cropping index in the region is projected to surge by up to 300 percent, allowing farmers to harvest crops more frequently.
Beyond supporting the agricultural sector, the dam offers various other strategic benefits for the people of North Aceh. Keureuto serves as a raw water supplier for residents' needs while reducing flood risks that often threaten surrounding areas. Additionally, the region holds significant potential for future renewable energy development.
