BANDA ACEH — A strong wind disaster struck Banda Aceh City and its surrounding areas on Tuesday (4/8/2026) night, damaging at least five residential houses. The severely affected settlement is located in the Lamteumen I Police Barracks (Aspol) area, Lamteumen Barat Village, Jaya Baru District, Banda Aceh.
The extreme weather event struck suddenly and swept directly through the residential area, triggering panic among residents who were inside their homes or around the barracks.

Bad weather affected much of the Banda Aceh area starting Tuesday night. High-speed wind gusts struck residential areas late into the night, leaving residents no time to take precautionary measures.
One eyewitness and local resident, Yanti, recounted that strong gusts of wind suddenly began battering their neighborhood shortly before 10:00 p.m. WIB.
"The strong winds occurred around 9:45 p.m. WIB," Yanti said as she recalled the sudden incident that damaged buildings in her residential area.
Impact of Damage at Lamteumen I Police Barracks
The brief yet intense impact of the strong winds directly affected the structural integrity of residents' homes in the Lamteumen I Police Barracks. Zinc and asbestos roofs were blown off their wooden support frames, while building debris was scattered along the alleys of the residential complex.
Based on initial field assessments, at least five houses suffered damage to their roofs and supporting structures. Following the incident, residents alongside local authorities immediately secured the surrounding area to prevent potential hazards from loose roofing materials or fallen trees around the Lamteumen Barat Village settlement.
Caution Over Potential Subsequent Extreme Weather
In the aftermath, residents whose homes were damaged tried to secure their valuables from potential heavy rain accompanying the strong winds. Relevant authorities and local government representatives are expected to conduct a comprehensive survey promptly to distribute emergency aid and repair damaged roofs.
