The local government of Gampong Lueng Bata, Lueng Bata District, Banda Aceh City, has distributed avocado seedlings to 971 households. Launched in late 2022, this program aims to strengthen residents' food security while positioning avocados as a new symbol of a self-reliant village.
Keuchik (Village Head) of Gampong Lueng Bata, Kurniawan Putradian, initiated this planting movement so that every household has productive plants in their yard. The output from these avocado trees is expected to become a flagship commodity that advances the village.
In addition to home consumption for family nutrition, the harvested avocados can eventually be sold to supplement residents' income. This step is part of a long-term effort to build an independent economy for the community.
