KUALASIMPANG — Pertamina EP (PEP) Rantau Field held an educational and environmental awareness program titled "Kelas Berdaya" for dozens of special needs students at the state special school Sekolah Luar Biasa Negeri (SLBN) Pembina Aceh Tamiang, Aceh Tamiang Regency.
This initiative was designed to equip students with a comprehensive understanding of natural disaster preparedness while instilling ecological awareness from an early age in a special education setting.
Inclusive Disaster Mitigation Education
A total of 35 students from SLBN Pembina Aceh Tamiang took part in an interactive learning series within the Kelas Berdaya program. The program represents an acceleration of social innovation focused on vulnerable groups, particularly children with special needs who require adaptive approaches and methods for disaster risk mitigation training.
Through this training, students learned self-rescue measures, evacuation route navigation, and emergency response simulations tailored to their respective physical and sensory conditions. The training aims to boost students' independence and confidence when facing unexpected emergencies in their surroundings.
Planting Seedlings for Flood Mitigation
Beyond indoor classroom sessions, the Kelas Berdaya activities were integrated with tangible environmental conservation efforts on the school grounds. PEP Rantau Field management, teachers, and students collaborated to plant 42 tree seedlings across the SLBN Pembina Aceh Tamiang campus.
Planting these dozens of tree seedlings serves as a nature-based structural mitigation measure to reduce the risk of local waterlogging and flooding, while strengthening the school area's environmental resilience against the global climate crisis. Alongside greening activities, PEP Rantau Field also handed over sanitation equipment packages to foster a hygienic, healthy, and comfortable learning environment for the entire school community.
