BLANGPIDIE — The Commander of Military District Command (Kodim) 0110/Southwest Aceh (Abdya), Lt. Col. Inf. Rana Mega Al-Amin, has called on all elements of society across his territorial jurisdiction to actively take part in preventing forest and land fires (karhutla). This anticipatory measure is considered vital to preserving the environment and minimizing the risk of haze disasters throughout Southwest Aceh Regency.
The wildfire preparedness advisory was underscored by the Abdya Dandim to the press on Thursday (27/8/2026) in Blangpidie. This proactive step was taken given that fire risks can escalate rapidly if land clearing is conducted without strict oversight and disregards environmental safety.

In his statement, Lt. Col. Inf. Rana Mega Al-Amin urged residents and related stakeholders to halt the practice of opening or clearing plantation land using fire. Burning vegetation is deemed highly dangerous because flames can spread uncontrollably and become difficult to suppress, especially during strong winds and dry scrub conditions.
Fires on peatlands and dry vegetation frequently trigger new hotspots that spread to surrounding areas within hours. This not only causes severe losses for landowners, but also threatens nearby residential settlements, damages protected forest ecosystems, and paralyzes socio-economic activities under a thick blanket of smoke.
