BIREUEN — The Bireuen District Attorney's Office (Kejari) carried out the destruction of evidence from a number of criminal cases that have attained final legal force (inkrah), including 155,487.39 grams or approximately 155 kilograms of dried marijuana and 156.66 grams of crystal methamphetamine, in Bireuen Regency, Aceh.
The destruction of these illicit drugs and other crime evidence was conducted as an integral part of the public prosecutor's duties as the sole executor of court decisions, as well as to prevent the accumulation, damage, or potential loss of evidence in the prosecution's storage facility.
Varied Destruction Methods Based on Item Type
The evidence disposal process was executed using several specific methods tailored to the form and characteristics of each item. For the 156.66 grams of crystal methamphetamine evidence, disposal was conducted by placing it into a blender mixed with a special liquid until completely dissolved so that it could not be reused.
Meanwhile, evidence consisting of dried marijuana weighing a total of 155,487.39 grams packed in over a dozen sacks was destroyed by burning it in a dedicated container set up in the disposal area until reduced entirely to ashes.
In addition to narcotics and illicit drugs, prosecutors also destroyed a number of sharp weapons seized from general criminal cases. Among them was a sword, which was cut into several pieces using an angle grinder until severely damaged and permanently unusable. Other supporting evidence was destroyed and rendered unusable according to their respective criteria and types.
Maintaining Accountability and Law Enforcement Integrity
The destruction of evidence plays a crucial role in ensuring legal certainty in Bireuen Regency. Every criminal case decided by court judges that has reached final legal certainty must be followed up with the execution of evidence—whether confiscated for the state, returned to rightful owners, or confiscated for destruction.
In addition to fulfilling applicable criminal procedure laws, this periodic disposal serves as a strategic solution to address storage capacity issues at the Bireuen District Attorney's Office. Given the sizable quantity of seized marijuana and crystal meth evidence, long-term accumulation risks deteriorating physical materials and creates security vulnerabilities in storage.
Through this transparent destruction witnessed by relevant officials, the Bireuen District Attorney's Office reaffirms its commitment to completing the full cycle of criminal proceedings thoroughly, accountably, and transparently from prosecution to final execution.
