BPMA and Medco E&P Malaka Successfully Workover 2 Wells in Block A, Target Additional 7 MMSCFD of Gas

BPMA and Medco E&P Malaka completed workovers on the JR-74 and JR-38A wells in Block A, potentially boosting gas production by 7 MMSCFD.

**BANDA ACEH —** The Aceh Oil and Gas Management Agency (BPMA), alongside Production Sharing Contractor (PSC) Medco E&P Malaka, has successfully executed workover operations on two wells in Working Area (WK) A. The engineering operations are estimated to boost potential natural gas production by up to 7 Million Standard Cubic Feet per Day (MMSCFD).

### Optimization of JR-74 and JR-38A Wells

Efforts to increase energy production in Aceh targeted two primary oil and gas wells in Block A: the JR-74 Well and the JR-38A Well. The successful workover marks a strategic step for BPMA and Medco E&P Malaka to optimize existing hydrocarbon reserves in Tanah Rencong's energy hub.

Through a meticulously planned workover program, both wells were revitalized to ensure a smooth flow of hydrocarbons to processing facilities. Post-operation technical evaluations indicated a significant improvement in reservoir performance, which has the potential to contribute a sustainable daily natural gas supply for regional and national energy needs.

### Technical Stages and Well Engineering

BPMA explained that the workover operations on the JR-74 and JR-38A Wells involved a series of complex technical procedures requiring extreme precision. The well engineering workflow began with cement remediation to reinforce cement integrity behind the casing and prevent fluid leaks between reservoir layers.

Following this, the technical team proceeded with squeeze cementing, a technique involving high-pressure cement injection to seal off unwanted thief zones or fractures within the wellbore. The next step was perforation, creating holes in the steel casing and cement sheath to allow gas fluids from the rock formation to flow optimally into the wellbore.

### Completion Installation and Flow Activation

The technical phase continued with well interior engineering through the installation of a single selective completion system. Installing this completion tubing configuration aims to selectively simplify the management and isolation of target gas production zones, making the production stream safer and more efficient.

As the final stage of the workover sequence, the technical team performed a swab well kick operation. This step lowers the hydrostatic pressure inside the wellbore, enabling subsurface natural gas to rise and flow naturally to the surface.

The workover operations on these two wells in Block A highlight the shared commitment between BPMA and PSC Medco E&P Malaka to maintain national oil and gas supply reliability while maximizing upstream natural resource potential in Aceh.
