BANDA ACEH — Former Head of the Aceh Oil and Gas Management Agency (BPMA), Nasri Djalal, has officially expressed his acceptance of the leadership transition at the upstream oil and gas regulatory body in Aceh. This open stance follows the step taken by Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Bahlil Lahadalia, who officially inaugurated Mawardi Nur as the new Head of BPMA on Wednesday (5/8/2026).
The inauguration of the new leader automatically ends Nasri Djalal's term while opening a new chapter in upstream oil and gas institutional management within Aceh's jurisdiction.
Official Inauguration by the Energy Minister
The inauguration ceremony for BPMA's new leadership was led directly by Energy Minister Bahlil Lahadalia. Through this appointment, Mawardi Nur was officially designated to take operational control and direct strategic policy for managing oil and gas resources in Serambi Mekkah.
The change of leadership within BPMA represents a crucial agenda for both the central and regional governments in ensuring investment sustainability, exploration oversight, and the optimization of regional revenue from Aceh's energy sector.
Nasri Djalal's Stance and Response
Following Mawardi Nur's inauguration, Nasri Djalal released a public statement regarding the leadership succession. Nasri emphasized that he fully accepts the government's final decision concerning his replacement as Head of BPMA.
This accepting stance marks compliance with the appointment of the new official in Aceh's upstream oil and gas governance, while smoothing the leadership transition process at the strategic agency to ensure organizational operations remain stable and uninterrupted.
Dynamics and Legal Basis Concerns
Nasri Djalal's acceptance comes into focus given that prior to the official inauguration, his camp had raised questions regarding the legal basis for his proposed dismissal. Inquiries regarding regulatory aspects and governance procedures for leadership appointments had become a widely discussed topic among regional energy stakeholders.
However, after the official decree was issued and Energy Minister Bahlil Lahadalia definitively inaugurated Mawardi Nur, Nasri chose to respect the decision and accept the succession with full grace.
Handover of Aceh Upstream Oil and Gas Management
With the inauguration completed and the former official accepting the decision, BPMA is now preparing to pursue its strategic agenda under Mawardi Nur's leadership. Working relations and coordination between the outgoing and incoming leaders are expected to be maintained for the continuity of Aceh's oil and gas governance programs.
A heavy responsibility now rests on Mawardi Nur's shoulders to build upon the agency's positive achievements and strengthen synergy between the central government, the Aceh Government, and Cooperation Contract Contractors (KKKS) for the advancement of Aceh's oil and gas sector.
