The Sumatra Post-Disaster Acceleration of Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Task Force (Satgas PRR) has reaffirmed its commitment to fully oversee the priority proposal for the normalization of the Tamiang River. This preventive measure is considered a key factor in ensuring that all facilities and areas currently under recovery are not destroyed again when heavy rains strike upstream.
This commitment was conveyed during a joint monitoring and evaluation meeting with the Aceh Tamiang Regency Government at the Aceh Tamiang Regency Government Center complex on Tuesday, August 4, 2026. The meeting was attended by the Deputy Head of the PRR Task Force National Command Post, Air Vice Marshal Ridha Hermawan.
Preventing water overflow through river normalization is crucial to be carried out as soon as possible. If the river channel is not promptly repaired, the high potential for water overflow risks re-damaging infrastructure and residential areas currently undergoing recovery.
