MEUREUDU — Eight months after flash floods struck Pidie Jaya Regency in late November 2025, a portion of the community in Masjid Tuha Village, Meureudu District, is still unable to access normal clean water supplies.
The impact of environmental and infrastructure damage caused by the floods is still directly felt by local residents. Many primary water sources owned by residents, particularly dug wells and drilled wells, have experienced a significant decline in water availability.
Murky and Yellowish Wells
This drop in well water discharge has triggered a widespread clean water crisis across residential areas. In addition to the dwindling supply, the quality of the remaining water in residents' wells has drastically deteriorated.
The current well water has turned extremely murky and yellowish. This renders the water unsuitable and unsafe for meeting basic daily needs, such as cooking, drinking, washing, and bathing.
Crisis-Affected Areas
The clean water shortage affects residents across several residential spots. One of the hardest-hit locations is along Jalan Malem Dagang, Pulo Hamlet, Masjid Tuha Village, Meureudu District, Pidie Jaya Regency.
In this settlement, residents have been forced to seek alternative clean water sources to meet their daily household needs. The lingering water difficulty, which has dragged on for eight months, continues to disrupt the daily routine of the local community.
Post-Disaster Supply Constraints
Affected residents such as Faridah and other Pulo Hamlet locals have faced persistent water supply challenges since floodwaters damaged soil structures and wells late last year. Well structures contaminated by residual flood silt are believed to be the main reason the water has failed to clear up.
The people of Masjid Tuha Village strongly hope for concrete action and the restoration of clean water facilities from relevant authorities to address the months-long water crisis in Pidie Jaya Regency.
