Digantikan Mawardi Nur sebagai Kepala BPMA, Begini Respons Nasri Djalal

Mawardi Nur Sworn In as BPMA Head, Nasri Djalal Accepts Leadership Transition Decision

Nasri Djalal has accepted his replacement after Energy Minister Bahlil Lahadalia officially inaugurated Mawardi Nur as the new BPMA Head.

BANDA ACEH — Former Head of the Aceh Oil and Gas Management Agency (BPMA), Nasri Djalal, stated that he accepts the decision regarding his dismissal and replacement after Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia officially inaugurated Mawardi Nur as the new Head of BPMA on Wednesday (5/8/2026).

Nasri Djalal took this graceful stance after previously questioning the legal basis and administrative procedures concerning the proposal to dismiss him from the top position at the Aceh oil and gas regulatory body.

Legal Dynamics of the Leadership Transition

The leadership transition within the Aceh Oil and Gas Management Agency (BPMA) had previously drawn public attention due to questions regarding the validity of the dismissal procedure. Before Mawardi Nur's official inauguration took place in Jakarta, conducted by ESDM Minister Bahlil Lahadalia, Nasri Djalal had raised concerns about the legal foundation used as a reference for the proposed change in BPMA leadership.

Questioning the mechanism was intended to ensure that bureaucratic governance and the legal framework governing BPMA—a special institution established under regulations governing Aceh's oil and gas sector—remained respected and executed in compliance with applicable laws. However, following the official inauguration held by the Ministry of ESDM, Nasri chose to accept and respect the government's final decision.

Sustainability of Aceh's Oil and Gas Governance

Following the official inauguration of Mawardi Nur as Head of BPMA, the agency's primary focus shifts toward maintaining continuity in managing Aceh's energy sector. Engagement and communication between the outgoing and incoming leadership are expected to ensure a seamless transition without disrupting upstream oil and gas oversight operations.

The Aceh Oil and Gas Management Agency (BPMA) holds special authority in supervising, managing, and controlling upstream oil and natural gas business activities across onshore and offshore areas within Aceh's jurisdiction. Under Mawardi Nur's leadership, the agency is expected to sustain the momentum of cooperation between the Central Government, via the Ministry of ESDM, and the Aceh Provincial Government.

Strategic Challenges for BPMA's New Leadership

A demanding task now lies ahead for Mawardi Nur in steering BPMA moving forward. Amid national efforts to boost oil and gas production, BPMA serves as a key pillar in facilitating upstream energy investments in the Aceh region, safeguarding energy revenue sharing, and driving the optimization of potential oil and gas fields.

With the conclusion of this inauguration ceremony, the dynamics surrounding the change in BPMA leadership officially come to an end. Broad support from various stakeholders, coupled with the receptive stance of former BPMA Head Nasri Djalal, is anticipated to foster legal certainty and a favorable investment climate for the development of the upstream oil and gas sector in the Porch of Mecca.
